A Las Vegas Lounge Befitting An Iconic Setting

Introduction: Las Vegas is known for its electric atmosphere, world-class entertainment and dining options as well as stunning nightlife. The city is constantly evolving, with new hotels, casinos, restaurants and attractions opening all the time, guaranteeing that no two trips to the city are ever the same.

One of the newest destinations in town is the updated Chéri Rooftop Lounge located at the Paris Hotel – beneath the resort’s dramatic Eiffel Tower reproduction. To conduct the update of the venue’s AV system, Paris Hotel officials tapped Cory Froke and his team at 4Wall Entertainment, a national full-service lighting, video and rigging company with offices in Las Vegas.

Challenge: Chéri Lounge management sought to do more than alter the physical layout and furnishings for this project. Their goal was to follow a model of modularity and total flexibility that would enable the dining and entertainment venue to be easily reconfigured to fit events of any kind and size, from corporate meetings to weddings, birthday parties and anniversary celebrations. In addition, the system needed to be flexible and future-proof for expansion as the need may arise. A key to this was the creation of a state-of-the-art AV system that would deliver superior uncompressed 4K video in a way that could be easily controlled by the facility’s staff members that may not have a deep tech background.

Solution: From the start of the project, it was decided that an AV over IP solution using a 10Gb network would enable the delivery of high-quality uncompressed 4K video with near zero latency to visitors no matter where they were seated.

To fulfill this mission, the 4Wall team designed a system that placed back-to-back 56-inch Samsung monitors on 12 carts that could be placed at any table or seating area throughout the venue. Each cart has its own dedicated DirecTV receivers and Brightsign media player to tune in sports and other live programming, as well as venue branding and customized content such as “happy birthday” or group welcome messages. Each mobile monitor station can be plugged into any of the dozens of ports in the floor that minimizes unsightly cable runs and dangerous tripping hazards.

In addition, the system features a 56-inch monitor in each of the two V.I.P. areas and a 40,000 lumens Barco projector system that displays images that can be seen by those walking and driving by on the Las Vegas Strip below. All video is run through two Netgear switches.

Initially, the design specified Crestron NVX encoders and decoders for the project, but this gear was held up by a lengthy shipping delay that did not fit the Chéri Lounge team’s schedule for completion. Seeking an alternate signal distribution solution, Froke was introduced to ZeeVee through BTX, its distributor, and was quickly impressed with the ZyPer4K gear after a series of demonstrations and testing.

“The flexibility this project required would not be possible without a network-based distribution solution,” said Froke. “After meeting with the ZeeVee team, we were quickly able to see the quality, flexibility and reliability of its AVoIP encoders and decoders, as well as the advanced functionality of its ZyPer Management Platform. Now that we’ve found ZeeVee, we look to incorporate its products going forward.”

The project, which was completed in seven months, has created one of the most popular outdoor venues in Las Vegas with a constant stream of high rollers, casual players, tourists and sports fans. Chéri Lounge management is very satisfied that it took the right approach.
