Can't get past firmware update step and zv box disappears

Can somebody help me here? I can't seem to get past the 'updating firmware' step as it seems to download the firmware update and tries to install it...even got 43% thru last time and then it stops and says firmware update failed. It's plugged into my USB port...turned off Norton....any ideas??

Update: Also, I can't get past the Installing ZeeVee Control driver....the Windows Found New Hardware Wizard comes up simultaneously with the Windows Logo Testing box, which I click on Continue Anyway as instructed but then that immediately restarts the whole computer again and again............argh!!!!!!!!!!!

Update 2: I think I'm OK now...problem was in the cable line I was using...
