Some Lesser-known Internet Video Sites to Check Out

OK, so by now you have heard of Hulu and all the major broadcaster sites (abc.com, cbs.com, nbc.com, fox.com) for sources of content, but what else is out there to watch that you can’t get on cable?
Vimeo and Crackle are two online video sites worth piping through your ZvBox. Vimeo features user-generated content, and only user-generated content, as it’s operated by and for videographers. Because of that, the site also features lots of high definition videos, which can look spectacular on the big screen. Check out the arresting, and slightly disturbing, “Suddenly” for a good example. With a wide range of topics and an easy-to-use interface, it’s easy to spend an evening exploring these little gems. And if you’re a videographer, you’ll appreciate its community-building tools, which include the ability to collaborate on projects. In short, it’s like an online film festival where everyone is invited to participate.
Crackle is a more traditional video site (if you can create tradition in just a couple of years), with professionally produced video from the likes of The Groundlings, and Penn (of Penn and Teller). There’s lots of short-form comedy, and a very cool “American Dream” reality series that features slightly offbeat people pursuing their vision of the good life. Watch the fellow building a one-man castle to see what I mean.
