Channel scan durning setup never ends.
When trying to install the ZEEVEE the channel scan never ends. I let it run overnight once and then changed my cableing setup to a private cable (no other signals) and it still does not complete. How long (what is minutes?) should I expect it to take?
Any suggestions?
Phil

Hi Phil, The channel scan you are referring to, is it the one on the ZvBox side (during installation at the PC) or on the HDTV side (tuning the channel at the TV)? The scan that happens at the PC during install should take 5-6 minutes tops. The one at the TV can differ depending on your TV and what kind of cable setup you have, but typically the longest it will go is an hour.
Assuming the issue is at the PC when doing the cable scan, it is possible we are running into a USB disconnect issue we have recently discovered and fixed. In fact we released an update last week that may address what you are seeing. To walk through it in more detail and collect some additional information I will reach out do you directly.
Melanie
The Problem was on the PC side and I was wondering about a USB issue.
we found that there was a problem with some (not all) USB 1.0 and 1.1 showing as disconnected even though the physical connection was there. The update we released last week has a fix for this, so once you have that I would expect this to complete without error. Another option is to plug ZvBox into a different USB port, preferably one you know is 2.0.
Melanie, I'm having the same problem. I just changed the usb ports but have no idea which, if any, on my pc are 2.0. How do I download update?
Subsequent to above I noted that usb ports on front of pc are labeled 2.0. Still no success. Also, the cancel button on install screen doesn't work here. I can only click "previous" to go back and stop scan.
Hi Kelley, Once everything is installed ZvManager will download updates automatically, but since you haven't completed setup it probably hasn't done that download yet. If you go through uninstall, disconnect ZvBox and connect/power it up again it should pull down the new firmware update before going through the rest of setup. This should allow you to get beyond the scan hanging.
Thanks, Melanie. That got me through channel scan (screen reads ZvBox has examined the channels on your cable and has not identified channel conflicts). However, I'm getting nothing on channel 125. I've tried this on two tv's -- 1) a Samsung LN-S3251D with cable connected directly to "cable ant" connection on tv and 2) a Samsung LN-S4095D connected to a cable box. In the latter case I used the supplied splitter as directed (input cable to back of splitter; one out cable to cable box and one to "cable ant" connection on tv.
I get nothing on 125 (blue screen) in either tv. I have tried the troubleshooting tip of connecting the zvb directly to tv with no result. I have run the channel scan multiple times, using STD, HRC, and IRC. Nothing works.
I am also unable to use samsung remote to tune to .1/.99 or -1/-99. My remote has a dash, but tv does not respond to it.
On a side note, my ZvBox is extremely hot to the touch. Is this normal?
Kelley, I am going to reach out to you directly I would like to get some additional information from you that shouldn't be posted in the forum (like serial number, etc).
But I am wondering if your TVs have QAM tuners in them, or just ATSC tuners. If you are unable to tune the channel when ZvBox is directly connected it is a good possibility. We have learned that many Samsung HDTVs have only ATSC tuners, not QAM tuners.
Regarding the heat of the unit that is normal, there is an FAQ that talks more about it check out My ZvBox gets hot. Is that normal?
Kelley, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but... from the research I have done it appears both models you listed from Samsung do not have QAM tuners. The second model you listed Samsung LN-S4095D had some differing opinions on QAM or not, but Cnet shows it with ATSC only, and they are great for listing QAM when it is available.
Since ZvBox localcasts using QAM your TVs won't be able to tune the signal, which is why, even when they are directly connected they can't tune to 125.99. For some additional information on why we went with QAM as opposed to ATSC, check out the answer from Vic in the forum Why didn't you... ;)
